Showdown Captain Mode
DraftKings Showdown Captain Mode: one Captain at 1.5x salary and 1.5x points, plus five FLEX from either team. $50,000 cap. Lineups must use players from both teams.
Thursday Showdown: Two Offenses That Score From Anywhere
Detroit's skill concentration against Buffalo's rushing quarterback. The captain decision is the whole contest, and the two obvious answers will be heavily owned.
Two explosive offences on a short week. Rushing quarterback equity is the safest way in.
- •Short-week games run fewer plays than the Sunday average — our model projects about 124 total snaps, roughly 6% below a normal main-slate game. That compresses every projection and pushes the field toward the safest captain rather than the highest ceiling.
- •Buffalo is projected to lead narrowly for most of the second half. In Showdown that matters more than in Classic: a one-score lead keeps Josh Allen's designed runs live, which is the most reliable source of captain points on the board.
- •Detroit's expected points are concentrated in two players. Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown account for a projected 44% of the team's fantasy production, which is exactly why both will be popular captains.
- •Both kickers project inside the top eight scorers in a 49.5-total game. A kicker in the FLEX is a genuine leverage play here, not a punt.
Captain plays
Ranked by projected captain leverage
Josh Allen
Rushing attempts inside the 10 give him a scoring path that does not depend on efficiency. Highest projected captain score on the slate and the only captain defensible in both cash and tournaments.
Jahmyr Gibbs
Receiving work keeps a floor in any script and two broken runs is a winning captain. The most complete non-quarterback captain on the slate.
Amon-Ra St. Brown
Slot volume is the safest target floor in the game. He needs a touchdown to win a large field, but he rarely posts a zero.
James Cook III
The projected Buffalo lead is the reason. If the game plays out as the market expects, Cook out-touches every skill player on the field and the field will have captained someone else.
Jameson Williams
Low-target, high-variance profile. One deep score changes the leaderboard, and projected captain ownership is under 5%.
Roster plays
Core, value, leverage and fades for the FLEX slots
Josh Allen
In every build, captain or FLEX. Removing him is the largest projection hit available.
Jahmyr Gibbs
Touches plus routes. The safest non-quarterback in the game.
Khalil Shakir
Projected 7 targets at a mid-tier salary; the cleanest way to fit two studs.
DJ Moore
New to this offence and still priced on last season's role — target share is trending up.
Sam LaPorta
Red-zone role makes him a live one-touchdown FLEX at a fair price.
Bills DST
Priced for sacks, but a projected shootout caps the defensive ceiling in this spot.
Build rules
How we construct entries on this slate
- •One quarterback in every lineup — captain or FLEX, never absent.
- •Bring back at least one Detroit pass catcher with any Allen captain; single-team lineups rarely hold up in a 49.5-total game.
- •Cap combined exposure to Gibbs and St. Brown at about 60% so a Buffalo blowout does not zero the whole set.
- •Use a kicker in roughly half of your tournament builds — the cheapest route to a differentiated lineup.
